Frequently Asked Questions
Here you can find the answers to our most frequently asked questions regarding the Embroidery Design Quotation/Order System.
- What Can I Submit For Quotation?
- As long as you follow the rules below, you can submit any style of artwork from a simple line of text to a intricate coat of arms, our system is set to quote designs of no bigger than 127mm x 127mm (5" x 5") if you do submit a design larger than that size you will be able to submit it for a manual quotation, this allows us to give a more considered quotation offering even better value.
Also if you have a large but simple design (such as a simple shape repeated over a large area) it is best submitted this way as we will take into account the ease of design when quoting in some cases you may prefer to submit your artwork via our alternative manual method by clicking here - What Image Format Can I Submit?
- We can only accept JPG images and they must be in RGB format. Customers using Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw must make sure the appropriate export function is used. Alternatively use Windows Paint to save the JPG file
- What File Size Can I Upload?
- Maximum individual file size is 2MB.
- Image Quality?
- Your image must be of good visual quality i.e. clear, in focus and at an appropriate resolution (minimum 150 dpi) and all text easily readable. please note that some images taken from the web are of a low resolution and become pixilated when made larger and may result in a less than ideal artwork for embroidery design creation.
- Image Size?
- The Actual size of the original image is not necessarily important as our program will base the quotation on the size stated in the size confirmation box of the order request form, but what is important is that the image is "cropped" to the area to be digitised/punched as illustrated below.

- What Is Cropping?
- Cropping is a term for trimming off unnecessary image information with a program like Photoshop. If you do not have such a program, various sites offer image manipulation programs free of charge (within their terms and conditions of use) such as GIMP.
- What Does Correctly Visually Orientated Mean?
- When an image is uploaded we require it to be "as to be embroidered" so if the design is horizontal it should be level and clear and if it is to be at a 30° it should be clearly shown in the artwork.

- Designs deemed large by our service will be quoted via email?
- Your design is considered large, therefore out of the range of automatic calculator and the price will be subject to the discretion of the design team as we wish to offer the most reasonable costing possible and will inform you as soon as possible of the quotation.
- Why Do I Have To State The Number of Colours and List Them?
- This is to help us give you exactly what you want, if the design is multi coloured then you may wish us to reduce the amount of needle changes or the logo maybe in Black & White and what is white needs to be Gold and so on.
You may State "As Shown" in the Colour list if preferred. - When Will I Get My Design And How Do I Pay For It?
We will email your design back to you on the address given when we have completed the design subject to payment of the design whether it be on account or you will be contacted by our accounts department for payment (a sewn sample can be emailed before payment is made if required).
We aim to return your design as soon as possible, we open Monday to Friday and are closed on bank holidays and over the christmas period.
- What Format Should I Choose?
-
We will email your design back you will need to be able to transfer it to disk if you have no embroidery software please download our test zip this contains the formats we offer, simply try the files on your disks and that will enable you to find the one that suits you best. : Note Tajima.dst is the most widely used format and is accepted by most machines so it would be wise to start with this format.
- Can The Design Include Appliqué?
-
Only if it is a cut on machine appliqué that does not require laser cutting from ourselves. If laser cuts are required please submit the design via designs@gs-uk.com or our alternative quotation page.
